I can make beads!

This may not seem very intense to you, but I'm excited because I have now been formally introduced to torch work.I can now make use of all three ways in which to alter or create sculpture out of glass. Castings (or kilnworking), glassblowing and lampworking. These are some of my very first beads and or pendants.
My friend adam made me this little cupcake while I was using his torch at his studio the other day.

DAY OF THE DEAD

this is a mural i made during a 3 week intensive sheet glass summer class. the background is done with oils. it's about 2 x 3.5 maybe? i never got a decent picture of it displayed before someone knocked it off the wall and it shattered. only this crappy picture i took the second after finnishing it.

attempt number one

This is a casting of a sprocket made by voice, my friend chopper's company.
There was an issue with the first mold, which cause a pretty sloppy outcome. The teeth didn't quite make it. I thought i could fix it in the cold shop, but so far no dice.
So i plan to soon remake the silicone mold and start with a fresh wax.

first test strip from a 3 week intensive sheet glass class. this was more cute after i first made it. then my drunk roommate knocked it over and broke it and i had to re-fire it. it now has a crack in the middle and the layers are more flat.

sassy

this is sugar pushed around on black paper.

fetus?

this project had totally different intentions. I spend about 20 hours carving a baby out of wax and the mold was too weak and it broke in the kiln causing the form to be hollow and incomplete. but the fact that it didn't fill out was actually a lot more interesting. i was really bad with documenting this but i did take some pretty neat pictures when the wax was in peices. the details were extremely hard to capture in photograph. whatever.

Mike Giant is the dude.

I'm sure you're familiar with his work.. it's becoming pretty mainstream. nothing better than pure black and white drawings of tattoos and hot chicks. This is who I chose to do a project my teacher my teacher assigned us. pick a non-glass artist and make something out of glass inspired by them. If you don't know him check him out.
The first piece i made was the larger black and white one but then i got on this big kick about making female torsos after that.

i wanna be the girl with the most cake

glass cupcake installation.
the brown cupakes are the wax molds with the glass cherries on top before i made the inclusion molds.

A work in progress...

I am very west coast influenced & I love glass as a medium because of its fragility and clarity. I also have a love affair with the fluid motion of painting. I am interested in split second happenings, moments. They escape you and you can never have that momentain. I am interested in the the possibility of conserving that moment. Making it continue to happen. This is one of my goals as a visual artist. I like tattoos because they can tell a lot about where a person has been and who they are. I am intrigued by absolute femininity being crossed with harsh things. Color makes me feel alive - bright annoying in your face color that forces you to contrast it to the darker morbid side of things. The most common themes in my work are death, gluttony and obsession.
